The Metametrix Extronex 2/16 OH Estrogen Ratio Test measures the ratio of these two critical estrogen metabolites from a single urine specimen. The Estronex 2/16 OH Estrogen Ratio Test measures six important metabolites and ratios, including:

The Good Estrogen

• 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1) - high levels of 2-OHE1 are ideal to reduce cancer growth.
• 2-hydroxyestradiol (2-OHE2) - shown to exhibit anti-carcinogenic effects.
• 2-methoxyestrone (2-OMeE1) - OMeE1 has shown to have anticancer effects and is ideal in high levels.
• 4-methoxyestrone (4-OMeE1) - as a non-cancerous metabolite, OMeE1 generally does not require treatment at high levels in the body.

The Bad Estrogen

• 4-hydroxyestrone (4-OHE1) - considered a bad estrogen, 4-OHE1 levels should be low, as high levels may react negatively with damaged DNA.
• 16-α-hydroxyestrone (16α-OHE1) - also considered a bad estrogen, 16α-OHE1 in high levels may encourage tumor development.

Instructions

Extronex 2/16 OH Estrogen Ratio Test by Metametrix Clinical Laboratory is a simple first-morning urine specimen, no blood draw is necessary. It is not necessary to discontinue nutritional supplements prior to this specimen collection. Abnormalities that may be found will reveal special needs that have not been met by recent dietary and supplemental intake.

1. Decrease fluid intake to avoid excessive dilution of the urine. For adults, restrict intake to three 8 oz. glasses or less for 24 hours. Make sure that no more than 8 oz. of this is consumed after 8:00 PM the evening prior to urine collection
2. Empty bladder before going to bed at night. Do not collect this urine.
3. Collect urine (if any) during the night and first morning urine into a clean container.
4. Using a fresh disposable pipette, transfer collected urine into the yellow cap plastic vial to the 13 ml mark. (DO NOT OVERFILL). Screw the cap on tightly.
5. Dispose of the remaining urine.
6. Freeze the yellow cap plastic vial and ice pack.

Do not:

• Do not rinse the vial. It contains preservative.
• Do not collect urine during menstruation.
• Do not stop taking supplements and medications.

Collection is preferred on days 18-25 after the first day of your period.

Testing is not recommended during pregnancy.
